1. After a full year of struggling with various ESL manufacturers and resellers, we can finally offer our unique one stop solution for ESLs:
    • You can buy ESLs and the base station (sender) directly in our web shop
    • A locally installed LPSNG uses Ethernet to talk to this base station
    • Cloud users can download and install our ESL Proxy, which connects the Ethernet based base station with our cloud servers.
    • LPSNG users with there own, central LPSNG server, can do the same.
Sending content to the labels has never been easier:
    • Create a new Label Layout for your ESLs
    • Select RSJ 2.8 ESL as label type
    • Upload a data file (in "Label > Label Attributes > Data") and set the record origin
    • Set the "Target Type" to ESL and the "Target Address" field in "Label > Page and Label Attributes > Target" to the base station id and label id.
    • Design the rest of your label as usual (but keep in mind that the current ESLs have only 232 px x 88 px).
    • Use "Run > Run" to create the labels

You can buy basestations and labels directly in our online RSJ ESL Shop.

But we are also more than happy to talk with you about your specific requirements and present our solution onsite.

It is super easy to integrate new ESL types into our architecture. We like to expand the ESL options for our customers (eg new display sizes, different transmission technologies, different price points). Feel free to contact us, if you think that we should offer your hardware as an additional option in our shop.

  2. Integrating LPSNG into other applications have now become much easier: Our new "Reusable Sidebar" allows you to show our user interface directly within your application.

The basic idea is to package our user interface into an easily embeddable IFRAME, that can be controlled by your application. This gives web apps and native apps (via embedding of browser windows) access to the full functionality, while requiring only minimal coding on your side.

We have a (rough) description of the API on https://lpsng.rsj.de/en/reusableSidebar.md .

Our concept is based on a base component (https://lpsng.rsj.de/sidebar/sidebar.js) that is initialized and customized from a page specific user scripts.

Our base component has a default implementation for most of the functionalities that you can inherit on.

So extending the base component or offering additional customization options (like not showing some controls) in the future is easy should not disrupt other integrations.

We have also made a simple demo page (https://lpsng.rsj.de/sidebarHost.html), which shows the internal interactions. It will just supply static data, but it will help you understand the mechanism.

Here are the links to the scripts that we are using:
https://lpsng.rsj.de/sidebar/main.js (the script that we use on the demo page)
https://lpsng.rsj.de/sidebar/sidebar.js (the script that you have to include in your page)

Our newly updated Google Sheets Add-On is already using this technology in the New UI version (we keep a Classic UI option for a short time, to allow for easier migration)

We have also done an integration into Microsoft Excel (Online & 2013) based on it. The initial version will offer less options than the Google Sheets integration, but clearly shows the power. Excel 2013 shows, that native application can be integrated as well. We are currently working with Microsoft to bring this into the Office Store.

  3. After 30 years in Germering we have now moved just outside of Stockdorf, which is 7km South.

Our new offices are on the 2nd floor of Grubmuehl, an old mill (known since 1399), directly on the waterfront of the river Wuerm, which connects Lake Starnberg with the river Isar.

Where a few years ago metal like bronze and gold has been rolled, now power, advertisement and software is created.

The offices are freshly renovated and have high speed internet.

    Our new address is:

    Grubmuehl 20
    82131 Stockdorf

All other contact details remain unchanged.

    Here are some impressions:

    From the outside
    The entrance

  4. The last half years has seen numerous enhancements to LPSNG:

    • Layout Editor
      • The UI has been been enhanced based on experience from our usability study. We have analysed lots of user sessions, to find out, what confused our users and how to avoid that.
      • The perceived performance has been increased dramatically:
        • Seldom used UI components (specific barcode visualizers and the source code editor) are now delay loaded only when required
        • Icons are now loaded as sprites
        • Forms are now created only ones
    • Barcodes
      • Databar
        • Our Databar support now includes Databar Expanded (and supports rendering of optimized application identifiers)
        • Databar performance has been increased
      • Code 39:
        • Support for Code 39 without check digits
    • On Premises Solution
      • Group Support
        • Our on premises solution now supports the concept of user groups, which may share a job queue or print servers
      • Integrated Rasterizer
        • LPSNG no longer requires an external rasterizer to convert PDFs into bitmaps on most platforms
      • Print Server
        • We now have a custom print server module, that downloads (via http(s)) and prints jobs
        • This module rasters PDFs on it's own. It therefore dramatically reduces network (and server) load
        • Our print server can be installed as a separate product with its own installer
    • Online Shop
      • Single User Version
        • The single user version of our on premises solution can now be licensed directly from our website
      • New Payment Provider
        • Google is quitting Google Wallet for Digital Goods
        • So we have now switched to Stripe

  5. Our Next Generation Label Printing System has always been portable.

    But how portable?

    It runs
    • in the cloud (on Google App Engine and Amazon EC2)
    • on your Windows PC
    • on your Mac (under OS X)
    • on a Linux system
    and now it also runs
    • on a (really cheap) Raspberry Pi single board computer.

So you can now package a LPSNG (physically) with your printers.

This gives you the full function in an extremely simple form factor.

    Where are the advantages:
    • Simplest possible installation (just plug in SD Card, Ethernet and power)
    • Forget about implementing complex control languages
    • Your printer just has to print bitmaps
    • Your users get the full Label Studio (to graphically design the labels) right in their web browser
    • And we have a web service interface for there print jobs

    We offer:
    • Integration support (to actually integrate your printer)
    • White label support (we customize the Label Studio, if you want, to look like it came from you)
And if you need more performance than the simple Rasberry Pi can provide, there are other boards  on the market, which offer exactly that.

  6. You can  directly print labels from Google Docs (eg spreadsheets).

Google Sheets supports Add-ons to automate various tasks. Combined with RSJ's Next Generation Label Printing Systems web service interface and Google Cloud Print this will give you the ability to create labels right from your spreadsheet.

Google has now approved our Add-on for Google Sheets

    Here is what to do:
    1. Create a new Google Sheets document
    2. Enter data (first row with field names, other rows with data)
    3. Get out Add-on by clicking "Add-ons > Get add-ons" and select "Next Generation Label Printing System"
    4. Install it
    5. Click "Add-ons > Next Generation Label Printing System > Start"
    6. Grant the rights requested
    7. Select "Sign in" in the sidebar
    8. Grant the rights requested
    9. Now click on "Create design".
    10. We automatically transfer the data from the current sheet and create a design with all the fields
    11. Edit the design
    12. You may of course also use the data for new fields (eg barcodes)
    13. Save it
    14. Go back to your spreadsheet tab
    15. Select "Print all"
    16. You can find your PDF by clicking on "Job Queue"
If you have a "Pro" edition of LPSNG, you can link your LPSNG account with Google Cloud Print and your print jobs will automatically start printing.

  7. The Next Generation Label Printing System is now even more powerful:

    New and improved field types

    • Multi line fields now support:
      • Multiple columns
      • Automatic (dictionary based) hyphenation for many languages
      • Bullet list
    • Bitmaps can now be loaded from an URL
    • Bitmaps Grids simplify the display of feature bitmaps

What you see is what you get

For some time now we have implemented more WYSIWYG features into Label Studio:

    • Barcode fields (even with the correct barcode content) are now shown directly in the client side label editor
    • Color of text and barcode fields is now shown directly in the client side label editor
    • The performance of the directory viewer has been increased (dramatically, if displaying many designs)
    • Bitmap are shown
    • Designs can now be replaced (with packages) while keeping all references intact.

  8. The web based label editor is one our products key features.

That is why we have redesigned and simplified the user interface:

    • We have optimized the editor preview of the label. We now show text fields, price fields, bitmaps and barcodes with correct direction, dimension and alignment.
    • We removed the attribute wizard when creating new fields
    • You can now edit static text fields inline (ie without opening the field attributes).
    • We have optimized the distribution fields to the tab pages and reorganized the tab order.
    • Label attributes are now accessible directly from the menu
While all these changes seem to be small, analytics data suggests that they really make the interface simpler to use.

  9. Google Sheets

We have created a new Add-On (currently tested by Google) to directly integrate our Next Generation Label Printing System with the new version of Google Sheets:

    • Get our Add-On form Google's Add-on store
    • Open it from the menu
    • Connect it with your LPSNG account
    • You will now see a selection of your designs (including the preview) directly in the Google Sheets sidebar
    • You can now either start a print job with your data
    • or use the data to create a new design with it

    Google Drive

We have also simplified our Google Drive Integration:

    • Right click on a Google Sheet in Google Drive and select "Open with..." "Next Generation Label Printing System"
    • A new dialog opens, which allows you to either use the data to create a new layout or to directly start a print job with it

  10. RSJ Next Generation  Label Printing System now support Markup Fields.

Markup Fields allow you, to change font attributes (like font size, bold, italic) within a field or a multiline field.

Markup fields are currently XML fragments supporting the following elements:

     Print the enclose text bold

     Print the enclosed text italic

<underline> Print the enclosed the underlined

<increase> Increase font size for enclosed text by 10%

<decrease> Decrease font size for enclosed text by 10%

<para> Paragraph (in multi line fields only)

We expect to add more markup commands in the future.
